Advice needed on route from Las Vegas to New Orleans?

I’ve gotten route advice by computer before and have sometimes gotten routes that looked good on paper, but in reality took me on logging roads or along roads that had very low speed limits.
Anyone out there travelled this route?
Where would be a good halfway point to spend the night?
